Create your own beautiful eco-friendly rapeseed wax candles using recycled jam jars and natural festive decorations.
This easy DIY candle-making project is perfect for creating handmade gifts, adding warmth to your home, or enjoying a fun craft activity. Decorate your candles with dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and natural hemp twine for a rustic, natural look.
Step 1
Place the rapeseed wax in a heatproof bowl and chop it into small pieces. As a guide, you'll need approximately twice the volume of wax compared to the size of your chosen jam jar.
Step 2
Melt the wax over a water bath at a medium temperature. The melting point of the rapeseed wax is 54-57°C.
Step 3
Dip the end of the pre-waxed wick with the small aluminium disc in the melted wax. Place it at the bottom of a jam jar. Keep the wick in place with a clothes peg.
Step 4
Carefully pour the melted wax into the prepared jam jar. Allow the candle to cool and harden for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the room temperature and the size of the container.
Step 5
Once the wax has fully set, decorate the outside of the jar with dried orange slices and cinnamon sticks. Secure them around the rim using natural hemp twine to create a charming, rustic finish.
