Spooky season is upon us! Want to make your own costume this year? Follow these steps and use our Craft Kit - Spooky Costume Bat Cape and Headband to create a cute but spooky bat costume.
- Felt
- Headband
- Self-adhesive EVA foam
- Satin ribbon
- Sticky base
- Glitter clay
- Cobweb
- Spiders
- Marker
What you’ll need that isn’t included in the kit:
- Scissors
- A printer! You'll need the Creativ Craft bat costume template that you can download here. Print it and trace the shapes onto your felt.
Step 1
Once you’ve printed the PDF template, take your felt piece (90x90 cm) from your Craft Kit – Spooky Costume Bat Cape and Headband, and fold it twice into a square as shown in the PDF. Find your stencil and place it on the corner of the folds. Use your pencil to trace the stencil, but don’t cut it yet.
Step 2
In your Craft Kit – Spooky Costume Bat Cape and Headband, you’ll find a one-metre-long satin cord. Fold the cord in half and thread the marker through the cord. Hold the end of the ribbon tightly and use the marker to draw an arc at the bottom of the felt, from one corner to the other.

Step 3
Next, remove the stencil from the craft kit and use it to draw semicircles along the bottom of your cape. Carefully cut out the semicircles by following the shape with your scissors.

Unfold and open the cape into a semicircle. Then, cut a straight line through the felt from the neck opening all the way down to the bottom of the cape.

Step 4
Cut your black satin ribbon into two pieces. You’ll use these as ties for your cape. Fold over the end of each ribbon and hold it in place with the Sticky Base from your craft kit. Take another piece of Sticky Base and press it onto the top of the ribbon to make sure it sticks to the felt. Tie a knot at the end of each ribbon.

Step 5
From your Craft Kit – Spooky Costume Bat Cape and Headband, take out the spider web and start placing it around your cape. You can stick it down with a thin layer of Glitter Clay. To add more spookiness, use the Sticky Base again to attach some spiders to the web. Make sure to stretch out the material to decorate the whole cape, then let it dry for 12–24 hours.

Step 6
While the cape is drying, you can make the headband. Start by tracing the stencils onto the back of the black glitter EVA foam. Cut out the shapes—you’ll need two of each to complete the headband.Peel off the protective paper from the black glitter adhesive foam and place one side of the headband into the middle of the foam. Then, fold the foam around the headband. Repeat the same steps on the other side, and your bat ears will be ready to wear with your cape!
